Descriptive Text about "Mountains"


Mountains are a form of land that protrudes above the surrounding area.  Mountains are part of the earth's surface that towers higher than the surrounding area.  A mountain is usually higher and steeper than a hill, but there are similarities, and use often depends on local customs.

Some authorities define mountains with peaks more than a certain magnitude;  for example, Encyclopædia Britannica requires a height of 2000 feet (610 m) to be defined as a mountain.

 A mountain is usually formed from plate tectonic movements, orogenic movements or epeirogenic movements.  Mountains are a collection or line of mountains.
